Colombia has been ravaged by armed conflict between guerrilla, paramilitary and government troops for fifty years. In the mid-Nineties the inhabitants of San José de Apartadó founded an association dedicated to promoting peace and protecting themselves against attacks by the warring factions.
Cuisine sans frontières supports the community in its efforts to improve the town’s infrastructure by building a community kitchen. The people of San José run the restaurant as a community centre, to provide communal catering for the elderly and children and as a meeting place – a space to create a common future built on mutual respect.
